Explore the power of artificial intelligence on May 23
The power of artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more prevalent with the release of OpenAI’s GPT-4 earlier this year. Yet thousands of scientists have signed an open letter requesting that labs pause the development of these systems.
Will these systems be regulated? How? Should development stop to allow shared safety protocols to be developed? Are the enormous potential benefits worth the risk?
On Tuesday, May 23, from noon until 1 p.m., these questions will be discussed in an online program titled “The AI Dilemma: Risks, Rewards & Regulation.” Hosted by the Rochester Beacon and moderated by Beacon publisher Alex Zapesochny (also CEO of Clerio Vision), the program will explore many questions. The panelists are:
- Pengcheng Shi, associate dean at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences
- Christopher Kanan, associate professor of computer science at the University of Rochester and a member of the scientific advisory board of Paige.AI
- Timothy Madigan, professor and chair of philosophy, St. John Fisher University
The program is free and live on Zoom. Registration is required. To sign up, visit AI Dilemma: Risks, Rewards & Regulation.
