EZaccessMD offers on-demand health care
Rochester-based startup EZaccessMD has expanded delivery of health care to homes and offices nationally. The service is allowing people to avoid unnecessary visits to urgent care clinics and is being offered as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
In Rochester, employees use the service at the Bonadio Group, Pike Construction, Episcopal Senior Life Communities, Gorbel, LiDestri and the YMCA of Greater Rochester. The company now serves more than 10,000 active members in New York, Massachusetts and the Carolinas. EZaccessMD is a spinoff from UltraMobile Imaging, Inc., a provider of mobile teleradiology for seniors in nursing homes and independent living settings.
Telemedicine is now a health care option that provides a safer alternative for many people. The service model delivered by EZaccessMD enhances the capabilities of the remote physician and members can consult with a board-certified physician anytime day or night. A highly effective method for evaluating many low-acuity conditions, virtual care helps doctors diagnose respiratory infections, strep throat, or the flu, while minimizing exposure to the highly contagious COVID-19 virus.
With the service, an enrolled member speaks to a care coordinator and is connected with a physician within 15 minutes. If the physician needs more information to diagnose, a mobile visit is initiated, and a technologist will arrive at the home or workplace of the patient in under two hours. After the technologist performs the requested testing or imaging, the doctor develops a treatment plan and prescribes appropriate medication.
There is no cost or copay for this service; patients are able to access care via a mobile application.
Employers using the service have reported year-over-year reductions in claims (i.e. PCP, Urgent Care and ER visits) often by as much as 10 percent to 20 percent, officials say. Over time this may result in negotiations for lower insurance premiums in addition to the cost avoidance occurring each time an employee uses their EZ benefit.
