ImagineRIT set to kick off spring festival season with 429 exhibits
The ImagineRIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival will mark its 11th year with more than 400 exhibits and a performing arts contest. The campus-wide event showcases the innovative and creative spirit of the RIT community.
This year’s festival kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, with Dr. Munson’s Performing Arts Competition. In a new twist on this pre-festival event, undergraduate and graduate students are invited to showcase their talents in dance, vocal or instrumental music or drama. The contest is set for Ingle Auditorium, where a panel of judges will score each performance on artistry, technique, audience engagement and stage presence.
RIT’s Space Exploration Program will once again feature the High Altitude Balloon., HAB4 will launch again at the field north of the Gordon Field House. It is expected to sail into the atmosphere upwards of 100,000 feet, nearly three times the altitude of a passenger jet.
Other highlights of Saturday’s festival include:
- Smart Baby Jumper: Connect your smart phone to this baby jumper—a nursery staple—and customize a baby’s experience with song selection, light and music control and more.
- Vertical Farming: a method to grow edible crops with limited water, no sunlight or soil.
- A variety of student-created video games, such as Crazy Platez (a Rochester-themed game inspired by Grand Theft Auto 1 and Crazy Taxi) and Fragile Equilibrium, a game about life.
- Experiments in 360 storytelling: 360 immersive video projects
- Venture Creations Incubator: Meet startups and their projects
- Wiggle your way to the top: Experience the newest form of fun photography
- Style Starter: Design space through virtual reality
Some 30,000 visitors are expected at the festival to experience the breadth and depth of RIT through interactive presentations, hands-on demonstrations, exhibitions, and research projects set up throughout campus. Multiple performance stages with live music and entertainment are also part of the event.
