Local business reinvents itself amid pandemic
Scottsville-based businesswoman Angella Luyk has received numerous accolades for her work over the last 20 years, yet has reinvented her business overnight to help residential customers during the COVID-19 outbreak. Her business is now delivering masks, gloves, cleaning supplies, and paper products to residential customers.
Products not normally available to the average shopper are now offered online and often delivered the same day the order is placed. One Stop Janitorial & Office Supply delivers these items directly to home porches.
Luyk and her husband are both immune compromised due to health complications. At first, they opened their warehouse doors to customers, but with so many people coming in, that became too risky.
“At 2 a.m., I decided to create a new website that offered the products people desperately need right now,” Luyk said. “Overnight, we reinvented our business. I know the products are helping people. People have literally been coming to us crying. Yes, it’s a risk to us. But I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if we didn’t do this.”
The new One Stop website is at https://shoponestoprochester.com
Every day, trucks are delivering products to the One Stop warehouse, and the Luyks fill orders and make deliveries into the evening. While most of their staff is furloughed, One Stop still has a core team of 15 people scouring the Internet for products they can order for their customers.
Over the years, Luyk has received numerous awards for her work. She was named an RBJ Women of Excellence and an Athena Award finalist. In addition, she is past president of Rochester Women’s Network. She has been recognized as a New York State Employer of the Year and decorated nationally with the Ethics in Business Award.
Success in this time of COVID is truly shared, as the Luyks have made donations to several local organizations.
