Makers, gamers featured at November Candids

A nationally recognized leader in the Maker movement and a promoter of the indie game development in Rochester are the featured guests at November’s RocGrowth Candids.
Dan Schneiderman and Robert Mostyn will speak Nov. 7 at Downstairs Cabaret Theatre. While being employed by RIT, each has extended their reach into the community much beyond the campus boundaries. They will share stories and explain their role in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Dan Schneiderman, K-12 University Center Senior Outreach Specialist at RIT, is one of the co-chairs of Maker Faire Rochester, a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments and projects. This year’s Maker Faire is Nov. 17 at Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Schneiderman also works with K-12 schools across western New York and has mentored school districts as they establish school makerspaces and Maker Faires.
Mostyn is founder of ROC Game Dev, an organization that supports and promotes indie game development in Rochester. ROC Game Dev hopes to provide a place where small indie studios can work, interact with others, and learn from each other.
RocGrowth Candids is a bi-monthly event featuring regional entrepreneurs who share their personal stories and the lessons they’ve learned building successful businesses.
